I met Erin a year ago at a neighbor's for tea. I liked her instantly. I gave her the then, too small boots off my son's feet, for her son Cole, who was about to trudge home in the new fallen snow. (I learnt I could have handled that differently with my son, but that's a different story). Fast forward to my pregnancy while I was on bed rest and Erin showed up at my door with a Rubbermaid bin full of delicious homemade food for dinner and dessert for our family. When Erin called to ask me to do a photo session for her newborn son Reid, I was thrilled.

One of our first conversations during tea at our neighbor's was Erin asking if it was possible to love your other children as much as your first. During our photography session Erin's love of both Cole & Reid radiated from her and she said she fell head over heels in love with Reid, upon first sight. Here are some pictures captured of Reid at his home surrounded by his brother Cole and mom Erin.

Introducing Maryanne & Remembering John

I would like to introduce you to Maryanne Pope. If you meet Maryanne the first thing you will notice is her vibrancy, enthusiasm and how she lights up an entire room, drawing people to her. On one of our last coffee dates a lady came to our table, apologized for interrupting us and handed Maryanne her business card saying something to the effect of, "I love your energy and I have to know you". Maryanne exudes positive energy, lives an authentic life, devotedly cares for her aging dogs and has the biggest heart. She is honest, candid and real in her conversations and writing. I admire how Maryanne is awake, engaged and present in living, how she takes risks and grows and is consciously creating the best life for her.

Ten years ago today the world lost John Petetropoulos, while he was on duty as a police officer, and forever altered the lives of those who knew and loved him, most significantly his soul mate and wife, Maryanne.

Hero is defined as a person of distinguished exceptional courage and strength, admired for their brave deeds and noble qualities. Maryanne Pope is my hero.

Maryanne faced, lived through and rose triumphantly through one of the most painful experiences I can imagine facing. Instead of burying her head in the sand, Maryanne chose to live, to grow, to blossom and to honor John. She followed her dreams and started a production company Pink Gazelle Productions, where she wrote and produced theater screenplays; film projects; television public service announcements and literature . Maryanne is the Board Chair of the John Petetropoulos Memorial Fund which strives to raise awareness and prevent accidents like John's from re-occurring. She is a motivational speaker and speaks to help/teach/inspire others. Maryanne took a tragic experience with threads of pain, sorrow and loss and wove it into gold, touching the world and making it a better place.

Recently Maryanne asked me to do a photo session for the book cover of the second edition, A Widow's Awakening, a creative non-fiction of her experience the first year grieving the loss of John (a must read & book clubs check this out). I instantly felt a knot in my stomach and showed apprehension. I had not been photographing for awhile, as I just had a baby, did not feel confident in my abilities and feared I could not do the book cover justice. Maryanne responded to my insecurities with "No, no, no...you're the gal for the job- I know it!" I prayed for strength and courage to do the book cover justice for Maryanne & John.

The plan was Maryanne would fly in for our photo session and we would have that one day to shoot the book cover before she had to leave for a wedding. On that scheduled day there were dark and heavy clouds in the sky. When Maryanne came to my house it was raining at the back of the house and sunny clear skies at the front where she entered. The rain stopped shortly after and we went to our session location. As soon as we started photographing the most beautiful light glowed in the sky, illuminating Maryanne. We had such a fun time together and I am honored to have been asked to be apart of a book that means so very much to me. Even more I am honored to be apart of capturing an image for John & Maryanne's legacy. Thank you Maryanne for encouraging me to get back in the game pursuing my passion and for believing in me.

While I can't share many of the photos, as they are being considered for the book cover, I can share a couple, that will not be used and I believe capture my beautiful friend's spirit. Maryanne, my life and the world at large is better having you in it. I love you my friend with all my heart! Today I think of you and John and I remember.

We have been enjoying getting to know our latest addition and have been adjusting nicely to being a family of five, well six really when you count our first baby, our dog.

Crayola Melt Down

This week we did the coolest recycling craft, thanks to my sister! She inspired us to turn all of our little broken crayon pieces into new crayons by melting them in mini muffins pans. Thanks sis, for the fun & clever idea, your nephews loved it! You gotta love crafts that recycle with things in your home & require no preparation. On the craft scale it rates as the easiest craft ever, you have to try it!

Today I opened my inbox and found a gift of love from my mom. If you know my mom, you know what a blessing she is in many forms. This is a tiny example of how she blesses us with her thoughtfulness. I am preparing to travel via airplane across the country, with two preschool children. Visions of crawling across the airline gate with a child hanging off either side of me, their bags across my arms and my 'heavy' photography gear bag somewhere in the mix ~ are keeping me awake at night!

So photographers out there, how do you do it? I am pretty sure checking a photography bag is not an option, with all that expensive glass and all! What's your traveling carry on photography bag of choice?

I am hearting this Jill.e large bag that meets the carry on bag requirements, as it rolls!! Yay~ one less thing to try to carry/juggle/balance! This company has just started a jack collection too! Do you have any feedback? Thanks for helping a girl out to travel & sleep better!! ;)

My Heart Is A Puddle

I love it when my nieces and nephews come for sleepovers. Last night my niece slept over. It was fun to play girl talk jenga, scrapbook and do girly sleepover things together! I told her to take the sleepover kit (that I purchased for last night) home with her, to do with her friends. She turned to me and responded, "no auntie I want to keep it here for our next sleepover" and my heart melted into a puddle on the floor!

Vintage Fabulousness!

When I was in high school, I loved driving my parent's old, red, rusty Ford truck~ that I lovingly named Jalopy {from the Archie comics}. I still have a love affair with rusty, vintage, vehicles. When I saw this one at a gas station in Sundre, I swooned. My husband in his fabulousness, surprised me, by arranging a photo shoot with the owner, while inside paying for gas. LOVE him!!

The owner was eighteen years of age and said his truck gets a lot of positive attention from the opposite sex; who often approach him about the coolness of his vehicle in parking lots. He was so kind to stay behind, while his friends ventured off, to let me capture his cool truck. I begged him to keep his truck until he gets engaged and then call me right away for a photo shoot with it!! I am already dreaming up the shots I want to do with a loving couple and this truck! In the meantime, if you have a vintage vehicle you want to use in your photo shoot~ that would make me swoon!

I am so happy to have two nieces! Don't get me wrong~ I feel truly blessed with two sons and seven nephews and would not want it any other way! They have taught me so much about the world that I missed out on in my own youth~ sports; hot wheels; superheroes; pirate adventures and the list goes on! Yet, I look forward to time with my nieces where I get a chance to relive my youth again! I am so sorry I have been a bad blogger in 2009!! I have to be honest I was waiting to post a project that I am working on. But seeing how it's been almost a month since my last post, I thought I have to blog something, as it's taking longer than I anticipated to complete!

2009 has been great so far and the month of January was spent getting my family life priorities in line. Now I am ready to add my business priorities into the mix this month! As a result, I promise I will be back to regular blogging as of~ now! ;)

I was writing up a list of 25 things about me for a tag and thought I would share them here as well, in hopes it helps you to get to know me a little better! Here's a picture of me with my favorite little people~ don't I look like how I feel ~ a lucky girl!!

1. My favorite sound used to be listening to rain fall on the tent but is now in second place to my children’s laughter.

2. I love texture and when visiting art galleries I instinctively touch the paintings. Touching is part of experiencing for me. This was hard when I visited the Louvre as there is a no touch policy!

3. Marriage is the best thing I have done. The hardest work, the toughest conversations = the greatest reward of knowing myself better and my partner. I think marriage has healed me in many ways and made me a much better person!

4. My greatest desire is for my children to be happy, confident and secure in themselves and the world, to give back, be empathetic, compassionate and most importantly a strong foundation of faith to stand on. I hope with all my might they set out to fulfill their own dreams not what they think others dream for them! And I hope to be strong enough to not influence their dream choice!

5. The greatest lesson I continue to learn is that I am not in control. I strive to let go of fear, choose love and trust.

6. I love everything about water- the sound, feel and taste. I take long hot baths at least three times a week and need to see the ocean once a year.

7. I am grateful we had a hard time getting pregnant. The time allowed us to grow in our selves and our marriage and most importantly made us very grateful for the gift of being parents, something we try not to take for granted each day.

8. Balancing my life is something I work on every day of my life! On my death bed I want to know I left a positive, healthy family legacy. Every decision I make I try to bring back to that goal and sometimes I stumble but I have an awesome life partner who reminds me! Family first is our motto.

9. I write a grateful journal each night before bed, it centers me and helps me to focus on the blessings in my life- which are abundant! I have heard from a motivational speaker whom I can not recall the name that writing different grateful entries each day rather then the same is the key.

10. All of my life, as far back as I can remember, I have dreamt of owning a house that in the centre/ heart of the home has a circular room with a glass roof and two floors surrounded with wall to wall floor to ceiling books... yes I am addicted to books- the smell, texture, learning etc... and you will find a book in every room of my house.. but not the center library yet! :)

11. My children think I rock at drawing super heros and that’s all that matters!

12. I feel so blessed that I am able to choose to be a stay at home mom and savor each day with my children. I feel so fortunate to now have the opportunity to explore my child hood dream of photography and make new friends!

13. Being in nature is important to my soul, the thicker the trees surrounding me, the happier I am. I still feel at home in Newfoundland surrounded by the water, trees...each time I go home and the plane is about to land, I cry at the beauty of the landscape and how my soul feels at home!

14. My fondest childhood memories are of camping and canoeing and it is still my favorite way to spend the summers with my family and friends.

15. Being creative reenergizes, relaxes and rejuvenates me!

16. There is no better place for me to be than lying in a hammock or on a dock and star gazing!

17. I desire roots as we moved around a lot in my childhood, however I would never take back those experiences for the incredible people I met and relationships formed!
Girl friend time has always been very important to me! I am blessed with friends who are my back bone and support and guide me in this world. I am grateful that I still have dear friends from as far back as when I was two years old and from each place I lived in childhood to adulthood. I treasure them.

18. I draw inspiration from the people in my life. Currently I am in awe of my grandmother’s will, motivation, drive and tenacity to over come health obstacles this past year. I am moved by the fact she is at home, sharing a bed again with her husband (my grandfather her strongest advocate, ally and love) of 63 years after odds said they never would again. I am inspired by their love story!

19. I am my biggest obstacle and I try to be kinder with myself as I have a tendency to be self critical.

20.I am blessed to have amazing family and friends in my life, absolutely spoiled rotten blessed!!!

What's For Dinner!?!

Words can not express how EXCITED I am to have discovered The Six O'clock Scramble dinner online service! My biggest challenge each day comes at 2pm when I look at the clock and think.. what's for dinner?!? While I love entertaining and planning the menu for those events, my strength is not in the everyday cooking of life.

I admire the foodies of the world that can whip up a healthy meal without much forethought. My sister for example has a kitchen that reminds me of my father's workshop. She has a tool for everything in the kitchen one could dream and I crack up watching her in action with her plastic gloves, funnels and contraptions that bewilder me as to their function in a kitchen. I am a simple kitchen dweller!

While I love the idea of a meal plan where there are dinner meals planned for that week and each morning we can decide what to have that day, I find the organizing of it painful! I was so excited to learn this service does it quickly and conveniently (meeting my goal of using my time efficiently). You receive different recipes weekly and can substitute with other recipes from their recipe box and it automatically changes your shopping list that you print off to take to the store!!! It is simple, healthy meals that have been family tested and come with nutritional information. Yay, Yay, Yay!! You have no idea how much this has rocked my world and assisted me in my goal of being a better wife and mother this year!

Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson was recommended to me by a photographer awhile back. It was one of the first books I found that helped me to understand the complexity of photography in a simple manner. On my last trip to Costco in Calgary I noticed it there at half the price I had paid. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a better grasp of photography.

When my parents were in Calgary this Fall we took the opportunity to photograph them with a connection session. They have recently celebrated 35 years of marriage. Growing up I could always rest assured in the knowledge that my parents loved each other. Having met while in high school, they have been dating for forty years, and are as affectionate today as they were back then. I feel blessed to have them as role models for committed, undying love that just gets better with age! I love the start of a New Year filled with renewal, hope and dreams! I love the process of looking back and seeing what worked well and what needs to improve from the past year, and armed with that information setting forth to make that difference in the new year. We set our goals as a family every May and December, I am not sure why, it just works out that way. I guess we are most reflective in those months. We discuss our spiritual, financial, physical, personal and business goals together after taking time to think about it by ourselves first. I have been asked how we do this with a two and four year old, but we do, in a modified manner. We ask them what they would like to learn, read, visit, see and do as a family and individual this year. And their answers are usually better than ours! I always remember my mother reading the calendar of the year just past on New Year's Day and reminiscing about the events of that year. We like to do this along with looking at our past goals for that year.

I have to admit, I was unsure I would reach some of my goals this year. Russ and I went to a workshop with Debra DeWaal, a life coach in Calgary, Alberta and owner of Safe and Sound this past March. Her session was titled " The Uncommon Man". During the session we had to write our goals and she would mail them to us in a month so we could self assess how we were doing. When I checked the mail the following month and saw the envelopes I knew the outcome of my goals would not be good. In fact I almost cried as I read over my goals and realized I had not even come close to making change. I am happy to report on New Year's Day as we looked over our goals from 2008 we had either accomplished or were on our way to accomplishing our short and long term goals. Our main goal each year never changes ~ family first and making decisions for a healthy marriage, healthy children, healthy relationships and healthy minds, bodies and spirits. I feel truly blessed that I can choose to stay home to raise my children while still pursing my dreams and passion in photography. I have you to thank.. as with out you, this would not be possible!!!

We want to thank each of our clients, friends, family and other photographers for making this dream of photography and the goals we set for our business in 2008 to come true!!! Today we partook in another family tradition of ours ~ the Storybook Theatre's Christmas Cookie Cabaret. It is held at the Currie Barrack's in Calgary and a fun event for families. We are season pass holders and encourage you to check out their season (by clicking the title of this post you will be redirected to their website). A play from a book, acted out by children, for children, is there anything better? They have a theatre school for children as well and ongoing auditions. I would've been all over this as a child! Now I love seeing my children's eyes widen as they sit straight watching in wonder and with anticipation, as a play from a book we have read, unfolds before their very eyes ~ like magic!

We went to a play tonight that was uber fabulous! It has become a family tradition to go each year as a good friend acts in these annual productions at Foothills Alliance Church. If you can GO! Tomorrow is the last showings (10:30am & 7pm)- this Broadway style musical, orchestra, talented actors and message make it a must see for the holiday season! And Psssstt it's FREE!! My favorite quote was when Mary said to Joseph " A dreamer needs a practical man to help make her dreams come true!". It resonated with me due to my blog post yesterday. Anniversary Of A Dream!

I have been absorbed in amazing conversations with women I admire, respect and who love me in spite of myself this week. There was deep conversation ~soul searching, challenging, real, vulnerable conversation. The best kind!

On the discussion board was ~ the women we are, the women we want to be.. although always varying in the details that bottom line remained the same. These real conversations, these beautiful people assist me in being a better person, in knowing myself better and in striving to be better. The only way I want to live!

I am so glad I went in to social work, and fundamentally I will always be a social worker. I have bonds with women whom are my heart and soul; I have learned to look at myself and reflect on who I am, my priorities, my perspective; I have learned more about our world and how others are treated in our society. I will always be a champion for the oppressed. My heart feels deeply for others and I have a vision for a better world, where we care for each other and live in community uplifting, encouraging and supporting each other!

While I am not currently working as a social worker, I still feel like a social worker. Although working as a photographer, I see my self as striving to be there, but as having not arrived. If asked what I do for a living I usually say "I stay home with my children and was a social worker". For some reason I do not see myself as a "photographer". I still see myself as that twelve year old girl with a camera, loving the thrill of taking a picture, capturing a moment; being with friends; loving the sound of the shutter "click" and learning something on a subject I am passionate about in my spare time. I guess I see the "photographers" of the world as in the big leagues, taking the photographs I aspire to and hence do not feel worthy of the title!

I bought my first DSLR the end of October 2008. I posted a blog as encouraged by my friend Derrick and thought it would be fun to track the journey of learning my camera. I still really think the only one checking this thing is Mom and Dad. I am someone who makes big, unrealistic goals, as in I have my camera and literally THAT week I think "I am going to be a photographer!"; my husband looked at me, the "realistic" one as if I was crazy- really I was a person who took average at best pictures and knew nothing about my camera.

Motivated by the idea of not being average, I dug in my heels, attended courses, tried to read my camera manual and figure out my lights although often on the edge of tears as if I was reading a foreign language. My husband was by my side through it all. HE read my manual and helped me learn; HE read exposure books to show me things; HE read the lighting manual and watched the DVD to figure out lights; HE walked around carrying all of my camera gear; HE worked hard, sacrificed thousands of our personal income and savings~ so I could follow my dream! He sacrificed time, energy, money, his back, and our personal time together as I sat for hours in front of a computer editing one picture for hours learning how to get it "right". He is my dream weaver, I could never have had this year without him, I am indebted to him.

A year later I think it's an anniversary of a dream...have I arrived..am I a photographer? I get scared sometimes that I will fail, remain average, have wasted our personal earnings all in the pursuit of a dream! But I recall a quote, (forgive me I can not recall the author as my fingers type faster than my brain can keep up), "to have tried and failed, is better than never trying at all".

So under my friends influence last night I declared "I am a photographer", "I am a photographer", "I am a photographer": although it does not feel authentic, it does not feel real, I will stand in front of my mirror each night saying "I am a photographer" and eventually maybe I will believe it! As my favorite quote of all time is "What you believe about yourself, you become"!! I am blessed to have so many people to thank for this year- my parents ongoing support, encouragement & seeing it in me first; my friends and family who booked sessions and spread the word about my business; new friends who found me and liked my images and actually booked me; photographer friends who allow me to ask endless questions and actually answer me and give me an idea of how to run a business. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Wow I am living my dream and all because of my family, friends and new friends I have met through this journey ~ thank you for supporting, encouraging and seeing something in me!

Stand Up To Cancer!

Cancer and I, we're not friends. My father in law passed away from colon cancer, before his son married and had children of his own. As a result three of us in this house, have not met him and only know him through pictures. We have never experienced him (touching, smelling, hearing), his laugh, his voice etc.. and all of us at times feel robbed by cancer.

These past couple of months cancer has reared it's ugly head in our family again, threatening to take away people we love. On the other side of the country my grandmother sits in a hospital room awaiting surgery to remove her stomach cancer and my grandfather awaits a biosopy of his lung to determine if there is cancer. On this side of the country one of my best friends, my soul friend, awaits surgery to remove the cancer from her thyroid. As they fight against cancer they teach and inspire me with their courage, strength, positive thinking and determination.

I just found this website www.standup2cancer.org and it is filled with hope that we can eradicate this foe called cancer! There are some great artists to hear as well. Check it out and take a stand against cancer!

I always recommend booking newborn sessions ahead of time as the best pictures are before two weeks of age. Kung Flu Fighters!

Flu season has arrived!! I am determined we will not fall prey to the viruses looming about. My friend Heidi blesses me with knowledge on homeopathic remedies and how to try to live medicine free. A few years back she told me about the benefits of thyme aromatherapy in boosting the immune system and she swears it is the main reason her family hardly ever get sick. So all week long I have been simmering a tbsp of thyme in water on the stove for a few hours a day. Russ says it smells like Christmas (except when it burns, note to self~ remember to add water every now and again).

We have also been trying to jam pack vegetables into our diet. I wanted to share the recipe of my friend Wendy's grandmother. It has been a comfort food that kept us warm this week! Boil salt meat on low for 60 minutes (this is a maritime food but I found it in IGA and Sobey's in Cochrane & Calgary if you dare try); strain and keep all stock and discard bones and defat salt meat; add turkey (either turkey leftovers (good meat, no bones or fat) or buy a turkey breast) with good salt meat into stock and boil for another 90 min. Add chopped turnip; 15 min later add chopped carrots; 15 min later add chopped potato and a can of tomato soup. Suiting your family's taste you can add other vegetables, leave as is or add barley, rice, macaroni noodles ect. I hope it keeps you warm and flu free on these crisp, refreshing winter days!

Celebrating

We are a family of four again and boy do we miss everyone! Our oldest asked at breakfast, "why does auntie have so many children and we only have two?" He then exclaimed "she must pray to God alot!" They were delighted to be reunited tonight at Franklin's Christmas Concert. Our nephew is out of the hospital and having him there gave us reason to celebrate as we sang Christmas carols. Russ captured this photo of Franklin.

***Thank you to those who put our nephew in your prayers. He is currently on medication with hope it relieves the fluid pressure on his brain to prevent surgery. They are running tests as dandy walker may no longer be the diagnosis***

Breathe

I stepped off the elevator and heard my footsteps on the floor, my throat closed in around me as though I was being strangled and I concentrated on taking breath. As I opened the door to his room and saw his beautiful face, the twinkle in his eye, the smile that would melt your heart and heard the words "Auntie, I missed you" , I suddenly felt calmness and wrapped in the light from his spirit. In my sister's eyes I see strength, love, unwavering hope, the ability to stay in the now and again I am reminded of how she inspires me!

My three year old nephew has been declared a dandy kid, (we always knew he was extra special and very dandy in our eyes!) and he has recently been diagnosed with dandy walker syndrome. Here's a video about one family's journey http://www.thedenverchannel.com/video/15201475/index.html

Today we await news of an MRI and the possibility of an upoming brain surgery. So I breathe, stay wrapped in the warmth of his loving spirit, tend to five sweet children, busy myself by baking and cooking comfort food to bring to the hospital and remain connected to my relationship with God, where I find rest and strength.

Simple Pleasures

Today I went to Starbucks for our weekly treat. Usually we go inside and our boys love to sit in the big comfy chairs and chat while they gulp their milk steamers. Today I brought them home as all six of us could not all fit in our vehicle. At the drive through they passed me the bright red cheery holiday cups and I was filled with a little slice of happiness.. yes simple happiness can come in small packages such as a holiday mug of warm yumminess!

On Television!

I am a believer that there are no coincidences. Case in point being last Thursday. First you have to understand we are not big television watchers, in fact the television was in the basement. We had gone downstairs to let our dog out and my youngest son was playing and accidentally turned on the television. I had my finger on the button about to push it off as we were headed back upstairs. That's when our oldest shouted with excitement "mom, our friends are on tv"! When I looked I saw it was 100 Huntley Street and Kevin & Deborah were guests. I knew they were going, I wanted to watch, but forgot to check the date. A moment later the picture I had taken for Diakonos Retreat Society flashed on the screen. What a neat feeling seeing the picture as big as our television set. Kidnapping In Effect!

I have kidnapped the three youngest of my sister's five children this week and I am not sure when I will give them back. Our two children are enjoying the gift of their cousins around the clock play time and I am loving the sound of giggles and squeals filling the house! Russ called today and asked "how's it going?" to which I replied, "I think we could easily have 5 kids", to which he responded "I think I will hang up now!". Obviously not the discussion he intended at 8am.

These photos are for my sister. She told me this morning she missed going into their room at night to look at them. So being the wonderful kidnapper I am, I thought I'd give her some images to gaze upon for the next couple nights!

Last night I attended the Craft Your Success Tour in Calgary, Alberta. Micheal Anderson and Davide Green were the presenters. The eight to nine hours flew by! I learned new information, was reminded of the things I need to complete (on my ever growing to do list) and most important to me allowed a networking with other photographers.

As I get ready to leave to photograph a wedding this weekend, I feel pumped from the new resources I gathered from the presenters and other photographers.

With the Month of October being recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, The Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation holds its Annual Fund Drive for six weeks starting in mid-September and ending in October.

President Ronald Reagan enacted Proclamation 5890 in October of 1988 to recognize that each year, approximately a million pregnancies in the United States alone end in miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of a newborn child. Reagan stated, "A national observance offers us the opportunity to increase our understanding of the great tragedy involved in the deaths of unborn or newborn babies. It also enables us to consider how, as individuals and communities, we can meet the needs of bereaved parents and family members... "

If you are in a place to make even a small contribution to NILMDTS, please know that doing so will continue to allow the organization to provide improved resources, training, communication, and other tools necessary in support of our amazing contingent of professional photographers who provide the gift of free remembrance portraiture to families in need.

I was honoured when Diakonos Retreat Society contacted me to take photographs for promotional material for their upcoming fundraiser. They are fundraising to purchase this beautiful ranch property to hold their programs and events that proactively strengthen the familiies they serve.

Sesame Street

We visited the Calgary Creative Kids Museum & Science Center this weekend. It was hard to tell who enjoyed it more the adults or the kids! The Sesame Street section made our day and brought us right back to childhood. There is something really fun about reliving your childhood with your children!

Pampered!

This week I had a special date, my sister! We started our day together by indulging in Starbucks on the way to pamper ourselves at Jerome's Hair Salon on 17 Ave in Calgary. We saw the talented hair stylist Vinny!

We treated ourselves to dessert before dinner at Crave, the cutest cupcake store!

My sister spoiled me by treating me to dinner at Earl's. I devoured the bento box, yummy it was soooo good!

Mostly I was spoiled by the uninterrupted company, conversation and laughter of my sister, my best friend! Thank you to my husband and my sister's mother in law for making it possible!!!

Play dates with a theme are so fun for children. Our oldest has entered a full blown pirate phase! My husband decided to turn a cousin playdate last week into a pirate play date. Everyone chose their pirate name, played pirate games such as cannon ball (water balloon) toss, swam once shipwrecked, read a pirate story and had a treasure hunt. He made them cupcakes with worms coming out of them which were a hit! Every day I count my blessings for a wonderful, healthy, close family and a husband who makes his children's wishes come true!

Robin, Roger & Matthew

This week I had the opportunity to do a family photography session at Confederation Park in Calgary. I had such a fun time spending a beautiful evening with Robin, Roger & Matthew.

Robin and Roger have a love that is deep...

and have a tremendous amount of fun together!

Matthew is their pride and joy...

with a pretty cool board!

As a family they know the importance of quality time, playing together and having fun!

This spring my husband and I attended a conference. One of the speakers was Debra deWall, an energetic, engaging & dynamic life coach and president of Safe & Sound Training & Consulting www.safeandsound.ca She spoke on the "Uncommon Life" and although we have heard her speak a number of times before, we always come away even more inspired. Here is a poem she shared with us:

Crystal Ball, Oh Crystal Ball, Will my empire rise and fall

Is there something more to life, than to build it for my wife,

Helen & Jim's Wedding

Helen & Jim had the most beautiful wedding ceremony which left no dry eyes in the room, mine included. It was evident how much family meant to them as every family member was given a special role. It was inspiring to witness the love Helen & Jim have for each other and their gratefulness to have found one another. Yesterday I had the privilege of meeting this loving family for a baby photography session. Their sweet little girl is three months old and was showing her sweetness the entire session! Her big eyes and beautiful head of hair made my heart melt!
